These are the models of Ferries operating on the Brisbane River, and selected river bridges. Ferries include older designs, modern catamarans, and the ferry landing terminals. Bridges include the Merrival rail bridge, the William Jolly road bridge and the older Victoria road and tram bridge, now demolished.

City Cat Ferry

City Cat Ferries

Driveable catamarans City Cat ferries. The original vessel design will load 150 passengers, is 25 metres long and has a top speed of 30 knots, but is restricted to 26 knots for river use.

It operates on invisible track 3 metres above water level. The navigation lights light up and the ferry is passenger enabled.

The ferry is renamable with a choice of eight names and associated serial numbers, to match those vessels in service.

The CityCats are named after the Aboriginal place names for various parts of the Brisbane River and adjacent areas. The names that can be selected in Surveyor are:

Barrambin (Bowen Hills)
Baneraba (Toowong)
Binkinba (New Farm)
Kurilpa (West End)
Mianjin (Gardens Point)
Mirbarpa (Indooroopilly)
Mooroolbin (Hamilton Sandbank) and
Tugulawa
(Bulimba)

Ferry John Oxley

Ferry John Oxley

An older design small passenger ferry based on the Brisbane river Ferry Guyandah, but the ferry is named for the similar John Oxley, used for cross river passengers.

It is passenger enabled and operates on track 3 metres above water level.

City Cat Landing

Most of the City Cat landings are of a similar design to this one.

It has two attached tracks, with passenger operations for the Brisbane ferries. Either tracks may be used, the Inner track is 3 metre from the landing for narrow ferries such as the John Oxley, and the outer is 4.5 metres from the landing for the wider City Cat.

The terminal at Bulimba. It is passeneger enabled, with a walkway from the bank to the loading platform.

It has two attached tracks, with passenger operations for the Brisbane ferries. Either tracks may be used, the Inner track is 3 metre from the landing for narrow ferries, like the Mermaid, and the outer is 4.5 metres from the landing for the wider City Cat.

The terminal at Hawthorne, a similar design to the one at Bulimba. All terminals are renamable in Trainz.

A terminal and refueling depot, non functional, although it can load passengers.

City Cat Buoy

River Navigation Buoys - Speed Control

The City Cat ferries have a maximum speed of 26 knots (48 kph) on the Brisbane River. The buoys are to control speeds in Trainz, and are for 6 knots and 28 knots.

In normal navigation, the red buoy is used to the left of the ship when leaving a harbour and the green will be on the left when entering a harbour.

The buoys are animated to simulate rocking in a ship wake, and have flashing lights. They attach to the invisible track placed 3 metres above the water level and are offset 7 metres from the track, red to the left, green to the right.

Placing Landings

Placing the Ferry Landings

Invisible track should be placed 3 metres above water level. The landings are first placed, and the height adjusted so the attached track heights match that of the invisible track laid for the ferries. Track can then be joined to the Landings.

The coloured track closest to the landing is for the older ferries like the John Oxley, and the track further away (the outside track) is used for the City Cats.

Operating buoys that replace the default track switch levers are also available.

Merivale Rail Bridge

The bridge crosses the Brisbane River near Milton and is dual track electrified. The main span is 133 metres long and the deck is suspended from the arches by thirty-two 94.5 mm diameter steel rope bridge cables. It was completed in 1979.

The model does not have overhead wire attached, the user will need to place catenary to suit.

The main model has four approach spans attached, and additional spline aproach spans are also available for connection.

Victoria Tram and Road Bridge

The Victoria bridge consists of 6 170 ft (51.8 metre) truss spans and was a road and tram bridge across the Brisbane River. The original bridge was built in 1897 and used in service until 1969.

The model places as one object, not a spline. It has attached tram track.

The bridge with the excellent tram models by Motorman1066, the tram is a Phoenix design.

While there are attachment points for joining a road spline, the traffic will not flow in the correct directions in the lanes unless used in Trainz Classics, which supports one directional lane traffic.

William Jolly Road Bridge

The William Jolly Bridge was constructed between 1928 and 1932, the arches are concrete encased steel, with the three major spans of arched ribs rising through the deck, span length 66.4 metres.

The four lane roadway is partly supported by hangers from the arches which project above the deck, and cross girders and stringers below.

The model bridge has three main spans and additional approach spans, all spans place as one model.

William Jolly Road Bridge

The approach spans are of a different design from the main spans. Connected traffic will not flow in the correct lanes unless the one way lane options in Trainz Classics are used.
